There are also energy efficiency programs for the commercial sector, especially in the field of information technology where electricity use is increasing dramatically. Many companies running servers are using up electricity at an exponentially increasing rate, and this has caused energy providers to offer incentives and rebates to companies who change their equipment for more efficient models. These incentives are likely to become increasingly important in the years to come, as the amount of power consumed by data centers is expected to rise still further.

To find the energy efficiency program which will give you the greatest savings, consider your own personal usage patterns. If you live in a region which experiences cold winters, you are likely to benefit greatly by installing energy efficient heating and insulation. Low-E glass in your windows could dramatically increase the amount of heat which is reflected back into the room, and allow you to turn your heating right down. If you have a vehicle and drive long distances, switching to a hybrid or a more efficient gas consumer could save you considerable money. Start with your most expensive usage, and find a related energy efficiency program.
